Chapter History

Eta Gamma - Morgan State University

The Eta Gamma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on April 24, 1976 on the campus of Morgan State University. It was brought into existence by the work of 14 band students and 7 members of the band staff.

Fraternal Hymn

Eta Gamma is known for having composed the national hymn, written by Scott Jeffrey Heckstall, Jr. (Spring 1977)

Melvin N. Miles Jr.


Some of its members serve on both the district and national council, including Mr. Melvin N. Miles, Jr., 34th National president and Second African-American President of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary band Fraternity, Inc. from 1993-1995. Mr. Miles has served Morgan State's Band Program for 49 years. He retired in the spring of 2022.
